CAIRO: Qatar’s Al Jazeera TV network promotes the ideologies of terrorist and extremist groups, Foreign Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa said yesterday.

He was addressing an Arab League ministerial meeting in Cairo. He outlined a project submitted by the kingdom on Al Jazeera’s violations and abuses.

He said the network, which represents the media arm of the state of Qatar, in its programmes, films and news reports “fabricated to offend everything that is Arab, where most of the Arab countries have been subjected to repeated abuses of this channel, which works to sow discord and hatred in Arab societies”.

He pointed out that the channel has hosted for two decades many terrorist groups and outlaws, and is the main platform to disseminate ideas of terrorist and extremist groups, including Al Qaeda and ISIS, Boko Haram, the movement of Islamic Youth in Somalia and Ansar Allah in Yemen.

He explained that Qatar, using Al Jazeera, has been relaying fabricated news and broadcasting news reports and films that are offensive to Bahrain and full of lies and fallacies, as part of its subversive plans to destabilise security, threaten civil and social peace, sow hatred and stir up sectarianism.

The ministerial council decided to refer this item to the Council of Arab Ministers of Information for consideration.

The Arab ministers also issued a resolution on Iranian interference in the internal affairs of Arab countries, condemning the continued Iranian interventions in the internal affairs of Bahrain, supporting terrorism, training terrorists, smuggling weapons and explosives, provoking sectarian strife, and continuing statements at various levels to destabilise security, order and stability, and establishing groups. A resolution praised efforts of security services in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia that have managed to thwart many terrorist plans supported by the Iranian Guards and Hizbollah.
