Kuwait: The Ministry of Health has doubled fees levied on non-Kuwaiti pregnant women who give birth naturally.

Health Minister Dr Basel Al Sabah endorsed an edict increasing the fee by 100 per cent to KD100 up from KD50 at present.

Those who undergo a Caesarean delivery (C-section) will have to pay KD150. The measure will apply only to non-Kuwaiti women who are registered in the health insurance system.

The ministry has also doubled the fee imposed on pregnant women staying at hospitals by 100 per cent to KD100 per day.

Non-Kuwaiti women giving birth at hospitals used to pay KD50 per day only, plus KD10 for each extra day.
