Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports first deputy president and Bahrain Olympic Committee president, welcomed back yesterday the victorious Bahrain national handball team players upon their arrival at Bahrain International Airport.
The team returned from Doha after capturing the title in the Asian Handball Qualifying Tournament to book a slot in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
They beat South Korea in the final 34-29 in a historic win that enabled Bahrain to qualify for the Olympics for the first time.
Shaikh Khalid expressed pride at the team’s historic achievement, wishing them continuous success.
“The Kingdom of Bahrain, thanks to men like you, has made history,” Shaikh Khalid said.
“You are the champions of the Asian handball game. You have honoured the Kingdom with your heroics that have enabled Bahrain to book its place in the handball competition of the Olympics.
“This achievement will remain in our history forever as you are the first national team to secure a place for the Kingdom of Bahrain in a team competition in the Olympics.”
