Under-18 girls beat Kuwait

BAHRAIN got off to a winning start in the West Asia Under-18 Girls’ Football Championship beating Kuwait 4-1 on Sunday night at the Khalifa Sports City Stadium.

Laila Sabkar put Bahrain ahead in the 11th minute and completed a brace in the 81st to seal Bahrain’s victory.

Al Anood Al Mannai accounted for the other two goals in the 46th and 75th minutes.

Kuwait’s only goal was scored by Munira Al Ragam in the 86th minute.

In the other matches on the opening night, the UAE beat Iraq 4-2 while Lebanon got the better of Jordan 3-0.

Seven teams are taking part in the event and they are divided into two groups with Group ‘A’ comprising Lebanon, Iraq, the UAE and Jordan, and Group ‘B’ consisting of hosts Bahrain, Palestine and Kuwait.

Bahrain coach Khalid Al Hassan was delighted with the hosts’ flying start.

“We are happy to start with a fine victory as it boosts the team’s morale. The players showed a good technical level and dominated the proceedings,” said Al Hassan.

“The focus will now shift to our next match.”

Today, Bahrain take on Palestine, the UAE clash with Jordan and Lebanon meet Iraq.

The top two teams in each group enter the semi-finals, scheduled for Saturday, while the final and match for third place is set for Monday.

The Bahrain team: Zahra Nazar, Noura Ramzi, Jumana Al Mannai, Lea Sarwani, Manayer Ahmed, Mariam Al Khaja, Shooq Fares, Al Anood Al Mannai, Manar Ahmed, Farah Khalid, Amna Al Matrook, Laila Sabkar, Mariam Abdulla, Dana Basem, Hana Ahmed, Yasmine Ahmed, Sarra Aliwi, Fatima Salman, Marwa Wannas, Aya Qassim, Sarra Al Dosari and Sama Qassim.
