  • <p>A workshop at Bapco Club in Awali kicked off the Gulf Downstream Association (GDA)&rsquo;s cross-company mentorship programme. Developed by the association&rsquo;s leadership and people development committee, the structured programme will focus on leveraging GDA&rsquo;s network and position within the industry to facilitate and help ensure that relevant expertise and knowledge are transferred to the next generation of leaders.</p>
<p>All founding companies of GDA including Saudi Aramco, Kuwait Petroleum International, Bapco, Kuwait National Petroleum Company and Abu Dhabi National Oil Company have nominated both mentors and mentees to take part, with the initiative expected to open up a new channel of knowledge-sharing between GDA members in addition to providing valuable mentorship to young professionals from a rich pool of industry experts.</p>
<p>With criteria set for each, qualifying mentors and mentees have been paired across the GDA founding companies such that one company&rsquo;s mentee is mentored by another company&rsquo;s mentor.</p>

  • <p>Foreign Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa yesterday received president of the Arab Gulf States Institute in Washington Ambassador Douglas A Silliman.</p>
<p>The minister commended historic strategic relations between Bahrain and the US in political, military, economic and other fields.</p>
<p>He noted the role of the institute in studying and analysing various developments taking place in the region, aiming to reinforce stability and security.</p>

  • <p>Interior Minister General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa yesterday received president of the Arab Gulf States Institute in Washington Ambassador Douglas A Silliman.</p>
<p>Public Security chief Maj Gen Tariq Al Hassan attended the meeting.</p>
<p>The minister hailed the institute&rsquo;s strategic security research and studies to contribute to the reinforcement of regional and international peace and security.</p>
<p>They also reviewed co-ordination and topics of common interest.</p>

  • <p>The Waqf Fund organised its 11th corporate governance workshop in Bahrain to discuss the various issues related to whistleblowing, responsibilities towards customers and the purpose of the corporation.</p>
<p>The workshop was attended by 24 people including Waqf Fund chairman Khalid Hamad, board members and chief executives of Waqf Fund member institutions.</p>
<p>It was delivered by Dr Nabil El Hage, an expert on corporate governance and a former professor of Harvard Business School.</p>

<p>A two-day special workshop to educate and inspire start-up entrepreneurs in Bahrain was held to coincide with Global Entrepreneurship Week.</p>
<p>The second edition of &lsquo;Falak Unreasonable Weekend&rsquo; was held jointly by Tamkeen (Labour Fund) and Falak Consulting.</p>
<p>The event included panel discussions where entrepreneurs shared the experiences and expertise they have acquired over the years.</p>

<p>Around 100 children took part in a festival showcasing their various talents.</p>
<p>They took part in 11 categories including drawing, writing, fancy dress as well as dance.</p>
<p>The annual festival has been organised by the Tamil Social and Cultural Association for the past 20 years to encourage children to display their talent.</p>

<p>Outstanding students and mentors were honoured during a special event organised by AlMabarrah AlKhalifia (MKF) as part of celebrations held to mark Bahrain&rsquo;s National Day and His Majesty King Hamad&rsquo;s accession to the throne.</p>
<p>The event was held at Al Areen Palace and Spa in Sakhir and was attended by the board of trustees, students, members of the foundation, parents and sponsors.</p>
<p>In an address, MKF executive director Saba Seyadi expressed pride in the kingdom&rsquo;s achievements across various fields and highlighted the foundation&rsquo;s initiatives in the education sector.</p>
<p>The event also featured entertainment, cultural competitions, a photo-booth corner and a traditional music live band.&nbsp;</p>

  • <p>More than 1,600 pairs of shoes have been collected for donation by students from the Indian School Bahrain (ISB), as part of a charity initiative organised at the Riffa Campus. The ‘Happy Feet Initiative’ was held in collaboration with Al Rashid Group’s corporate social responsibility project and was aimed at fostering a spirit of generosity within the children to help the under-privileged. It is part of the group‘s ongoing initiative to support charitable organisations that provide service to the local community and care to the elderly.   • <p>International Union Against Cancer (ICCF) president Princess Deena bint Mira’ad Al Hussein of Jordan visited the Department of Oncology and Abdulla Khalil Kanoo Oncology Unit at Salmaniya Medical Complex. She met a number of officials and heads of departments and was briefed on treatment programmes provided. She expressed admiration for the level of services provided at the unit, which is an integrated health system dealing with the diagnosis and treatment of tumors in children. Princess Deena also visited the Bahrain Oncology Centre, which embodies the vision of His Majesty King Hamad to develop and raise the level of healthcare in the kingdom, and praised the level of advanced and quality services that match services provided by health and medical services in the best international facilities.</p>

  • <p>A Bahraini artist along with his students staged Indian classical dance performances at the Kerala Catholic Association auditorium in Segaiya last night. The debut presentation by the students of Khalil Al Ashar at his School of Kathak in Bahrain, Tatkaar was titled ‘Aarambh’ (The Beginning). Mr Al Ashar, the only Bahraini exponent in the form of Indian ballet known as Kathak, along with Bharatanatyam exponent Rupesh K C from Bangalore, India also presented a duet at the event.   • <p>Bikers were the weekend attraction at the Bahrain Mall in Manama yesterday, as the Bahrain Bike Week comes to a close today. The 10th edition of the annual event started on Thursday as part of festivities marking Bahrain’s National Day and His Majesty King Hamad’s Accession to the Throne. The three-day festival, launched in 2010, was held under the patronage of Capital Governor Shaikh Hisham bin Abdulrahman Al Khalifa.</p>

  • <p>The National Bureau for Revenue (NBR) yesterday held an interactive workshop to recap general and sector-specific VAT concepts, including invoicing and filing.</p>
<p>Following a question-and-answer session, 140 attendees representing 92 enterprises were invited to visit a unique interactive demo centre, which delivers innovative learning experiences to ensure effective implementation of VAT.</p>
<p>The NBR held a series of workshops that brought together stakeholders from public and private sectors to ensure the smooth registration of companies with an annual VATable supply of BD37,500 to BD500,000 by December 20.</p>

<p>A family festival showcasing Bahrain&rsquo;s agricultural heritage is taking place this weekend.</p>
<p>Khairat Belady (My Country&rsquo;s Bounty) is being held at the Farmer&rsquo;s Market, in Hoorat A&rsquo;ali, and commenced yesterday.</p>
<p>It will continue today and tomorrow, from 10am to 9pm, and is organised in co-operation with the Bahrain Development Bank (BDB) and the Agriculture and Marine Resources Directorate.</p>
<p>Bahraini farmers, small project owners and private companies are among those taking part.</p>
<p>It is being held as part of celebrations marking National Day, which falls on December 16, and the anniversary of His Majesty King Hamad&rsquo;s accession to the throne, which falls on December 17.</p>
